Cílem této magisterské diplomové práce je popsat, jak J. D. Salinger v jeho povídce Den jako stvořený pro banánové rybičky (1948) a novele Vzhůru, tesaři, do výše střechu zvedněte! (1955) s vyžitím údajně duševně nemocné hlavní postavy Seymora Glasse vyobrazuje a zároveň kritizuje sociální stigma spojené s mentální nemocí, které prostupovalo americkou společností během a po druhé světové válce. Abstract:
The aim of this master's thesis is to describe how J. D. Salinger in his short story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" (1948) and novella Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters (1955) portrays, with the supposedly mentally ill protagonist Seymour Glass, the stigma against the mentally ill in World War II and post-war American society and how exactly he criticises it.
