Body shaming as an emotional abuse in an aesthetic sport

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na body shaming jako formu emocionálního zneužívání v estetickém sportu. Cílem práce je zjistit jaká je zkušenost estetických sportovkyň s tímto fenoménem v českém sportovním prostředí. Teoretická část práce popisuje kulturu estetického sportu, dále se věnuje problematice body image a pojímání krásy a těla. Závěr je věnován emocionálnímu zneužívání ve sportu a fenoménu body shaming, včetně vymezení jeho typologie, dopadů na oběť a jeho za-sazení do sportovního kontextu. Empirická část práce se nejprve věnuje popisu metodologie výzkumného šetření a následně reprezentuje samotné výsledky kvalitativního výzkumu. Výsledky popisují průběh zažívaného body shamingu, jeho dopady na život sportovkyň a rovněž představují problematiku vztahů s trenéry – pachateli a způsoby řešení zkušenosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on body shaming as a form of emotional abuse in aesthetic sport. The aim of the thesis is to find out what is the experience of female aesthetic athletes with this phenomenon in the Czech sport environment. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the culture of aesthetic sport, then it deals with the issue of body image and the conception of beauty and body. Final chapter is devoted to emotional abuse in sport and the phenomenon of body shaming, including the definition of its typology, its impact on the victim and its placement in the sport context. The empirical part of the thesis is firstly devoted to the description of the metodology of the research investigation and then represents the actual results of the qualitative research. The results describe the course of experiencing body shaming, its effects on the lives of female athletes, and also present the issues of relationships with coach-perpetrators and ways of dealing with the experience.
