Abstract:

Srí Lanka byla pod vlivem britského kolonialismu více než jedno století, což s sebou přineslo změny ve vzdělání, zemědělství a sociální a ekonomické politice. Práce zkoumá historii Srí Lanky od britské okupace až do její nezávislosti v roce 1947. V diplomové práci jsou vysvětleny důvody, proč Britové obsadili Srí Lanku a jaký dopad to mělo na zemi jak v minulosti, tak i v současnosti. V práci není zkoumán pouze vývoj země, ale i konflikty, které mohly být způsobeny britskou kolonizací.

Abstract:

Sri Lanka experienced British colonialism for more than one century. It has caused changes in education, agriculture, social and economic policies. This thesis examines the history of Sri Lanka from the British occupation up to its independence in 1947. It tries to explain and analyse the reasons why the British conquered Sri Lanka and what effects it has had on the nation at present. Not only does the thesis explore Sri Lanka’s development, but also the conflicts which might have been caused by nearly 150 years of British colonisation.
