Properties of Zn pigmented paints based on epoxy resin depending on the structure and concentration of the filler

Abstract:

Obsahem této diplomové práce je zkoumání vlastností zinkem pigmentovaných nátěrových hmot v závislosti na druhu a množství použitého plniva. Byla použita plniva na bázi křemičitanů, oxidů železa, sulfidů, uhličitanů a grafitu. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak tato běžná plniva ovlivňují chování zinkem pigmentovaných organických povlaků a zda může určité plnivo nahradit část koncentrace zinku, aniž by došlo ke snížení vysoké korozní účinnosti organického povlaku. Před samotnou formulací byly charakterizovány jednotlivé typy plniv a pigmentů, kdy byla stanovena hustota, olejové číslo a na základě těchto parametrů byla vypočítaná kritická objemová koncentrace jednotlivých pigmentů či plniv. Dále byly stanoveny podíly sušin u používaných pojiv. Poté byly formulovány modelové nátěrové hmoty, které obsahovaly vybrané plnivo vždy v objemové koncentraci pigmentu 5, 10, 20, 30 a popř. 40 a 50 %, které byly doplňovány sférickým zinkovým prachem vždy na hodnotu Q = OKP/KOKP = konst. = 0,67 (100?OKP/KOKP = 67 %). Pro srovnání výsledků byla připravena standardní nátěrová hmota obsahující pouze sférický zinkový při hodnotě Q = 67 %. Nátěrové hmoty byly aplikovány na skleněné a ocelové panely, na kterých byly prováděny zkoušky. Na skleněných panelech byl v čase sledován vývoj tvrdosti povlaků metodou útlumem kyvadla, odolnost vůči vtisku Buchholzovou metodou, chemická odolnost vůči methylethylketonu a vývoj lesku připravených povlaků. Na ocelových panelech byly prováděny zkoušky mechanické a korozní odolnosti organických povlaků. Mechanická odolnost byla stanovována pomocí zkoušky přilnavosti mřížkovou metodou, úderem závaží, hloubením, a nakonec odtrhovou zkouškou přilnavosti. Korozní odolnost byla stanovována pomocí zrychlených korozních zkoušek. Pro tyto účely byly připraveny vzorky s jednovrstvé, dvouvrstvé a vzorky dvouvrstvé opatřené vrchním epoxyesterovým nátěrem. Tyto vzorky byly podrobeny zkouškám stanovení korozní odolnosti v atmosféře neutrální solné mlhy, v atmosféře solného elektrolytu (Prohesion test), vlhké atmosféře s obsahem oxidu siřičitého, a nakonec byly stanoveny korozní projevy v závislosti na pH kapaliny. Z výsledků byly stanoveny živostnosti organických povlaků. Korozní odolnost testovaných organických povlaků byla doplněna o výsledky měření elektrochemie, kdy byla provedena metoda lineární polarizace. Byl zhodnocen vliv plniv na vlastnosti nátěrů dle složení, tvaru částic použitého plniva a podle objemové koncentrace pigmentu. Byla provedena specifikace plniva pro zinkem pigmentované nátěrové systémy podle účinnosti dosažených parametrů v mechanické a celkové korozní odolnosti organických povlaků.

Abstract:

The content of this thesis is to examine the properties of zinc pigmented paints depending on the type and amount of used filler. Fillers based on silicates, iron oxides, sulphides, carbonates and graphite were used. The aim of the work was to find out how these common fillers affect the behavior of zinc pigmented organic coatings and whether a certain filler can replace part of the zinc concentration without reducing the high corrosion efficiency of the organic coating. Before the formulation itself, individual types of fillers and pigments were characterized, when the density, oil number were determined and on the basis of these parameters, the critical pigment volume concentration (CPVC) of individual pigments or fillers was calculated. Furthermore, the dry matter contents of the binders used were determined. Then, model paints were formulated, which contained the selected filler always in the volume concentration of pigment 5, 10, 20, 30 and possibly 40 and 50 %, which were supplemented with spherical zinc powder always to the value Q = PVC / CPVC = const. = 67%). To compare the results was prepared a standard paint containing only spherical zinc at Q = 67%. Paints were applied to the glass and steel panels on which the tests were performed. On the glass panels, the development of the hardness of the coatings by the pendulum attenuation method, the resistance to imprinting by the Buchholz method, the chemical resistance to methyl ethyl ketone and the development of the gloss of the prepared coatings were monitored over time. Tests of mechanical and corrosion resistance of organic coatings were performed on steel panels. Mechanical resistance was determined by the grid adhesion test, weight impact, dredging, and finally the tear adhesion test. Corrosion resistance was determined using accelerated corrosion tests. For this purpose, single-layer, double-layer and two-layer samples coated with an epoxy ester top coat were prepared. These samples were subjected to tests for corrosion resistance in a neutral salt spray atmosphere, in a salt electrolyte atmosphere (Prohesion test), in a humid atmosphere containing sulfur dioxide, and finally corrosion manifestations were determined depending on the pH of the liquid. The lifetime of organic coatings was determined from the results. The corrosion resistance of the tested organic coatings was supplemented by the results of electrochemistry measurements, when the method of linear polarization was performed. The influence of fillers on the properties of coatings according to the composition, particle shape of the filler used and according to the volume concentration of the pigment was evaluated. The specification of the filler for zinc pigmented coating systems was performed according to the efficiency of the achieved parameters in the mechanical and overall corrosion resistance of organic coatings.
