Influence of stuttering on development of social anxiety disorder

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahem koktavosti a sociální fobie. Jejím cílem je zjistit, jaké jsou předpoklady přítomnosti sociální fobie u výzkumného vzorku osob s balbuties. Tato práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí, a to části teoretické a praktické. Část teoretická je věnována shrnutí informací o koktavosti, sociální fobii a jejich vzájemném propojení a je zpracována na základě analýzy odborné literatury, internetových zdrojů či časopisů. Praktická část je založena na kvantitativním výzkumu, který obsahoval základní demografické údaje, údaje o vlastní koktavosti respondentů a také SPIN (Social Phobia Inventory). Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 25 osob s balbuties starších patnácti let a dále kontrolní skupina stejného počtu osob bez narušené komunikační schopnosti. Výsledek výzkumu ukázal větší pravděpodobnost vzniku sociální fobie u osob s balbuties než u intaktní skupiny, a o to až o 28 %. U 21 osob s balbuties z celkem 25 se ukázaly alespoň lehké příznaky odpovídající sociální fobii. U osmi osob potom příznaky poukázaly na těžkou až velmi těžkou formu sociální fobie.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the topic of stuttering and social anxiety disorder and connection between them. The main aim of this paper is to find out whether there are higher assumptions of social anxiety disorder among people who stutter. This dissertation is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. Theoretical part is talking about stuttering, social phobia and relationship between stuttering, anxiety and social anxiety disorder. First part is based on an analysis of proffesional publications, mainly written by Czech authors and analysis of internet sources and magazines. Practical part rests on quantitative research which contains demographic questinos, information about stuttering of research participant and SPIN (Social Phobie Inventory). There were 25 people with stuttering older than 15 years who took part in this research project and control group with same number of intact people. The result of this research showed higher assumptions of social phobia among people with stuttering of about 28 %. 21 participants with stuttering out of 25 had results in SPIN which exposed at least light symptoms of social anxiety disorder. Eight people had score from SPIN which pointed out severe or very severe social phobia.
