Impact of immigration policy of the Czech and Slovak Republic on migrants' preferences

Abstract:

Migrace je jeden z nejvýraznějších politicko-sociálních fenoménů posledních několika let. Na státy jsou kladeny stále větší a náročnější požadavky v oblasti jejich migračních politik. Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, zdali a případně jak moc může Česká republika a Slovenská republika svoji migrační politikou ovlivňovat imigrační toky do země. Kvantitativním výzkumem ve formě dotazníku bylo provedeno šetření na 306 imigrantech nacházejících se v České nebo Slovenské republice. Porovnáním, analýzou a komentováním výsledků šetření z těchto dvou zemí bylo zjištěno, že migrační politiky obou zemí nemají výrazný dopad na, pro danou zemi pozitivní, migrační toky. Co naopak migrační toky velmi výrazně ovlivňuje jsou makroekonomické ukazatele jako průměrná mzda či míra nezaměstnanosti.

Abstract:

Migration is one of the most significant political and social phenomena of the last few years. Countries are facing more difficult and more challenging demands on their migration policies. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find out whether it is possible and if so, then how much can the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic influence migration flows to their countries only using their migration policies. Quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire was conducted amongst 306 immigrants located in the Czech or Slovak Republic. By comparing, analysing and commenting on the results of the survey from these two countries, it was found that the migration policies of both countries do not have a significant impact on the country's positive migration flows. On the other hand, migration flows are significantly affected by macroeconomic indicators such as the average wage or the unemployment rate.
