Czech-German coexistence in Nový Bor in 1945-48

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problémům soužití českých a německých obyvatel Nového Boru a okolí od konce 2. světové války do února 1948. Pojednává o osvobození města, o excesech a persekuci Němců, o průběhu jednotlivých fází odsunu a naproti tomu dosídlování pohraničí, stejně jako o snahách o obtížný postupný návrat města k běžnému mírovému životu. Hledá odpovědi na otázky po příčinách vzájemného chování Čechů a Němců a vysvětluje jejich řešení v souvislosti s tehdejší legislativou.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals the problems of coexistence between Czech and German inhabitants of Nový Bor and its surroundings at the end of World War II until February 1948. I tis focused on the liberation of the city, the execesses and persecution of Germans, the progress of the individual phases of the expulsion and the settlement of the borderlands, as well as the difficult gradual return of the city to its ordinary peace. It seeks to answer questions about the causes of the mutual behavior of Czechs and Germans and to explain their solution in relation to the legislation of that time.
