Use of service mesh in cloud

Abstract:

Service mesh je stále relativně nová technologie, která usnadňuje práci programátorům a správcům systémů. Odděluje vrstvu infrastruktury od aplikace, což umožňuje programátorům soustředit se na obchodní logiku a správcům systému na infrastrukturu. Navzdory všem výše uvedeným výhodám je využívání této technologie stále relativně nízké. Důvodem může být další vrstva složitosti, která spočívá v dodatečných znalostech potřebných ke správné implementaci a konfiguraci služby mesh. Tato práce se proto snaží přispět k popularizaci této technologie jejím podrobným vysvětlením a také praktickou ukázkou jejího použití. Snahou je čtenáři jasně vysvětlit, v čem spočívají silné a slabé stránky service mesh, a ukázat všechny nezbytné kroky nutné pro správné nasazení této technologie. Konkrétně byla cloudová infrastruktura nejprve vytvořena pomocí nástroje Terraform a poté automaticky nasazena pomocí platformy Gitlab. Dalším krokem bylo nasazení samotné sítě služeb do této předem vytvořené infrastruktury a otestování její funkčnosti. Tato práce tak úspěšně demonstruje jednu z možností využití servisní sítě v praxi.

Abstract:

Abstract Service mesh is still a relatively new technology that makes work easier for both programmers and system administrators. It separates the infrastructure layer from the application logic, allowing programmers to focus on business logic, and system administrators can concentrate only on the infrastructure. Despite all the mentioned advantages, an adaptation of this technology is still relatively small. The reason may be the added complexity in the additional knowledge necessary for the proper implementation and configuration of the service mash. Therefore, this work seeks to contribute to the popularization of this technology through its detailed explanation and a practical demonstration of its use. Specifically, the cloud infrastructure was first created using the Terraform tool and then automatically deployed using the Gitlab platform. The next step was to deploy the service mesh in this pre-built infrastructure and test its functionality. Thus, this work successfully demonstrates one of the possibilities of using the service mesh in practice.
