The Impact of Development of Emission Allowance Prices and Energy Commodities Prices on Electricity Wholesale Market Price in the Czech Republic in Phases 2 and 3 of the EU ETS between 2008 and 2020

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem ceny emisních povolenek a energetických komodit na cenu elektřinu na velkoobchodním trhu v ČR během 2. a 3. fáze EU ETS v letech 2008–2020. Cílem práce je zhodnotit vliv vývoje ceny emisních povolenek, ceny uhlí, ceny zemního plynu a ceny ropy na tržní cenu elektřiny na velkoobchodním trhu v ČR a současně porovnat jejich vliv v 2. a 3. fázi EU ETS. V teoretické a praktické části práce byly použity metody literární rešerše, faktografická rešerše, vícenásobný lineární regresní model za použití metody nejmenších čtverců a korelační analýza. Regresní i korelační analýza ukázaly, že největší vliv na velkoobchodní cenu elektřiny v letech 2008–2020 měl vývoj ceny emisních povolenek. Jejich vliv byl mezi 2. a 3. fází EU ETS konstantní. Cena uhlí je druhý nejvýznamnější determinant ceny elektřiny. Vliv uhlí zůstal mezi 2. a 3. fází konstantní, i přes pokles výroby elektřiny z uhelných elektráren. Na cenu elektřiny měl také vliv zemní plyn. Jeho vliv byl ve třetí fázi EU ETS silnější než ve druhé, kvůli růstu podílu na výrobě elektřiny. Cena ropy se ukázala jako statisticky nevýznamná.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis evaluates the influence of emission allowance prices and energy commodities prices on wholesale electricity prices in the Czech Republic during 2. and 3. phase of EU ETS between 2008 and 2020. The aim of this thesis is to review impact of emission allowance prices, coal prices, natural gas prices and oil prices on wholesale electricity prices in the Czech Republic and compare their impact during 2. and 3. phase of EU ETS. In theoretical and practical parts were used literature review, factography review, multivariate regression analysis using ordinary least squares method and correlation analysis. The results of regression and correlation analysis show that the greatest impact on electricity prices had emission allowance prices during observed period. The impact was consistent between phase 2 and 3 of EU ETS. Coal price is a determinant with the second greatest impact on electricity prices. Electricity generation from coal was decreasing over time, but impact on electricity prices was stable during phase 2 and 3 of EU ETS. Also natural gas prices influence electricity prices. The impact of natural gas prices was higher during 3. phase of EU ETS, because of its higher share in electricity generation. Oil prices proved to be a statistically insignificant.
