Fantasy worlds inspired by the neobaroque in The Swallower Swallowed by Réjean Ducharme and The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches by Gaétan Soucy

Abstract:

Here presented diploma thesis analyses fantasy worlds of Bérénice, female narrator of The Swallower Swallowed by Réjean Ducharme (1941), and Alice, narrator in The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches written by Gaétan Soucy (1958-2013), from a perspective of literal neobaroque. The aim is to use this postmodern aesthetics together with the historic Baroque as theoretical supports to track the presence of their elements that contributed to the construction of these novels, as well as to the imaginary universes of both the heroines.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl vysledovat vlivy literárního baroka a neobaroka na imaginárních světech vypravěček Bérénice a Alice, i na samotné konstrukci obou děl, jmenovitě románu L’Avalée des avalés (Pohlcená pohlcenými) Réjeana Ducharme (1941) a knihy La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes (čes. O holčičce, co si ráda hrála se sirkami, Academia, 2003) napsané Gaétanem Soucym (1958-2013).
