Silver - The Forgotten Metal

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá komplexní analýzou stříbrného trhu s primárním cílem identifikace hlavních faktorů, které mohou vést k budoucímu zhodnocení ceny stříbra. V první části je na empirických příkladech z historie rozebrán vývoj role stříbra. Kapitola pokračuje nalezením společných charakteristik stříbra se zlatem. Zároveň je podrobně pojednáno o širokém využití tohoto drahého kovu. Druhá kapitola komplexně analyzuje trh z pohledu tvůrců nabídky i poptávky a jejich vývojem za deset posledních měřitelných let. Značnou část kapitoly tvoří také aktuální analýza futures trhu se stříbrem za pomocí dat z COT reportů. V neposlední řadě je poukázáno na malost stříbrného investičního trhu. Třetí část se zabývá nejprve hlavními událostmi na stříbrném trhu za posledních 50 let. Nastíněna je i někdejší makroekonomická situace v jednotlivých dekádách, zejména pak ve Spojených státech amerických. Nejen na základě těchto poznatků je poté analyzován cíl práce. Hlavních faktorů je uvedeno osm, čtyři z fundamentálního a čtyři z technického pohledu na trh.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with complex analysis of silver market with the primary aim to identify the main reasons that may lead to future silver price increase. In the first part, there is written in detail the development in silver role based on empirical evidences of history. The chapter continues with finding the same characteristics with gold. The broad use of silver is described as well. The second part is focused on complex analysis of silver market from the point of view of participants of supply and demand and on changes in both sides during the measurable last ten years. The large part also belongs to actual futures silver market analysis thanks to the use of COT reports data. Last, but not least, the small size of silver bullion market is pointed out. The third part is firstly focused on the main events happening on silver market during the last 50 years. A little bit about macroeconomic situation in the certain decades is written as well, mainly in the United States. Not only thanks to these information, the primary aim is analysed. Eight main reasons are chosen, four from the fundamental and four from the technical point of view on silver market.
