Analysis of byproducts from the reaction of fluorographene with sodium amide

Abstract:

The present work attempts to shed light on the reaction between fluorographene and sodium amide in dimethylformamide which affords a fluorine free nitrogen-doped graphene derivative. The interest on this reaction arises from the unprecedented nitrogen doping levels as recorded with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, reaching 17 at. %, at particularly mild reaction conditions with respect to commonly utilized methods reported before. Product and byproducts were identified and scrutinized, employing a broad array of experimental techniques, in order to provide possible answers on the critical question of the mechanism of nitrogen insertion in the graphitic plane. Experimental results combined with ab initio calculations pave the way for disentangling this intriguing mechanism.

Abstract:

Tato práce se pokouší osvětlit reakci fluorografenu s amidem sodným v dimethylformamidu, jenž poskytuje dusíkem dopovaný grafenový derivát s nízkým obsahem fluoru. Zájem o tuto reakci tkví v nebývale vysokém stupni dopace grafenu dusíkem zjištěného rentgenovou fotoelektronovou spektroskopií, který dosahuje 17 at. %, čehož je dosaženo za relativně mírných podmínek v porovnání s předešlými metodami. Produkt a vedlejší produkty této reakce byly studovány za použití mnoha experimentálních metod pro zjištění mechanismu zodpovědného za vkládání dusíku do výsledné grafenové mřížky. Experimentální výsledky v kombinaci s metodami výpočetní chemie poskytují kroky vedoucí k rozklíčování tohoto mechanismu.
