Chapters from Czech Prose at the Beginning of the Third Millennium

Abstract:

V kapitole Česká próza po roce 2000 zmiňujeme hlavní prozaické tvorby v tomto období. V oddílu Kapitoly z české prózy na počátku třetího milénia se soustředíme na interpretaci děl Hany Andronikové, Jana Balabána, Emila Hakla a Jáchyma Topola. Román Zvuk slunečních hodin Hany Andronikové postmoderně zachycuje jedince pod tlakem dějinných okolností dvacátého století. Autorka odvyprávěla velkou historii na půdorysu dějin malých, přičemž beletristicky zpracovala rovněž traumatické téma holocaustu (na základě nastudované literatury faktu). Prózy Andronikové reflektují minulost prostřednictvím využívání metody deníkových zápisků, motivů hudby a starých fotografií. Některé ze vzpomínek jsou silně nostalgicky laděny. Zdůrazňování důležité role paměti je motivováno potenciálním nebezpečím zapomnění. Román Nebe nemá dno nese znatelné autobiografické rysy a vyznačuje se zároveň akcentovanou terapeutickou funkcí autorka se v něm projektuje do hrdinky a tímto způsobem se vyrovnává s vlastní zákeřnou nemocí. Prózy Jana Balabána jsou existencialisticky laděné, což lze ukázat na přítomnosti příznačných motivů i na zvýznamnění kategorie času a modality prostoru ve fikčních světech. Zpomalená narace mnoha próz je způsobena snahou o zachycení subjektivní reflexe přítomnosti. Introspektivní ponor umožňuje průhledy do niterných konfliktů senzitivních postav. Autor zasazuje většinu svých děl na industriální ostravskou periferii v období normalizace. Sugestivní deskripce neutěšené šedi panelákových sídlišť dokresluje partnerské a rodinné krize, jimiž postavy procházejí. Každodenní trápení jsou zintenzivňována reflexí bezduchého konzumního životního stylu. Balabán je považován za mistra povídkového žánru (soubory Možná že odcházíme a Jsme tady jsou jeho nejlepší). Styl a motivy Balabánových próz připomenou psaní Jana Čepa a Raymonda Carvera. Emil Hakl ironicky vykresluje mezilidské vztahy a sociální prostředí pražské periferie. Autor se koncentruje na humorné stránky života, nicméně evokuje také smutné momenty. Generační střetávání demonstruje nejčastěji na vztahu rodičů a dětí. Komické aspekty rozhovorů mezi otcem a synem v novele O rodičích a dětech jsou oslabeny v románu Pravidla směšného chování, v němž je tematizováno otcovo umírání. Implikace Haklovy motivické blízkosti k poetice undergroundu je korigována ambivalentním přístupem k tomuto hnutí, znatelným zejména v románu Intimní schránka Sabriny Black. Haklovy texty jsou přirovnávány k tvorbě Jaroslava Haška a Bohumila Hrabala pro jejich velmi příbuzné rysy zejména grotesknost plynoucí z bizarních událostí a komického chování excentrických hrdinů. Jáchym Topol je znatelně ovlivněn postmoderní estetikou. Chaotické víření smyslu potenciálně ztěžuje četbu a problematizuje finální interpretaci, podobně jako fragmentární kompozice a bohatá intertextovost. Temporální fragmenty prostupují kultovním románem Sestra, který imaginativně vykresluje počátek českého porevolučního období (první polovinu devadesátých let) propletená dějová linie a snové vize jsou pohlcovány dravým narativním proudem, evokujícím karnevalovou atmosféru. Prózy Noční práce a Kloktat dehet se hyperbolicky vztahují k sovětské invazi do Československa roku 1968. Opozice vůči totalitním režimům představuje symptomatický rys Topolovy poetiky. Spisovatel tematizuje tragické dějinné události, absurditu válek a brutalitu nesmyslného zabíjení. Topol se rovněž zaměřuje na vysoce symbolickou prostorovou deskripci velkoměsta (Prahy v románech Sestra a Anděl) a venkova (v Noční práci).

Abstract:

In the chapter Czech Prose after 2000, the main trends in prosaic genres of this period were mentioned. The section Chapters from Czech prose at the Beginning of the Third Millennium deals with the works of Hana Andronikova, Jan Balabán, Emil Hakl and Jáchym Topol. The novel Zvuk slunečních hodin written by Andronikova grasps (in a postmodern way) the hard times of the twentieth century; the writer narrated so called great history in the shape of small history and implemented the topic of holocaust (based on research in factual books). Andronikova's prosaic pieces penetrate to the past via diary entries, musical motifs, old photos; some of the reminiscences are imbued with nostalgia and the accentuation of human memory preventing possible forgetting of horrible events. The novel Nebe nemá dno contains noticeable autobiographic features and it is distinguished by conspicuous therapeutic function the writer projects herself into the main heroine and in this manner she puts up with her insidious disease. Existentialist texts of Jan Balabán lay stress on the category of time and the modality of space. Slow-motion narration results from the subjective reflection of the present. Characters are clinched in their importunate anxious states. Introspection enables penetration into inner conflicts of sensitive protagonists. The author mostly sets his works in industrial periphery of Ostrava and often in the period of normalization. Forceful description expresses the bleakness of life in the area occupied by grey blocks of flats. Heroes suffer from partnership and family crisis that they go through. Everyday misery is intensified by the reflection of spiritless consumer lifestyle. Balabán can be considered a master of short-story (Možná že odcházíme and Jsme tady are writer's best collections). The style and motifs of his texts resemble writing of Jan Čep and Raymond Carver. Emil Hakl ironically depicts the interpersonal relationships and social environment of Prague outskirts. The author concentrates on humorous sides of life; nevertheless he also evokes sad moments. Generational meeting and clash are typically realized by the insights into the relationship between parents and children. Comical aspects of the dialogue between a father and a son in the novel O rodičích a dětech are weakened in Pravidla směšného chování, because of father's dying in that work. The implication of Hakl's affiliation to the poetics of underground is relativized in the ambivalent attitude to this movement, recognizable in several texts (especially in Intimní schránka Sabriny B.). Hakl's works are contextualized to the classic legacy of Jaroslav Hašek and Bohumil Hrabal for the similar attributes mainly grotesqueness caused by the presence of eccentric events and characters in fictional worlds. Jáchym Topol is perceptibly influenced by postmodern aesthetics. The reading of his works can cause problems with understanding due to the chaotic swirl of meaning, fragmentary composition and rich intertextuality. Temporal fragments characterize the cult novel Sestra that depicts (in strongly imaginative manner) the beginning of Czech post-revolutionary period (the first half of 1990's) a lot of story lines and dream visions enter the multi-layered and unrestrained narrative stream evoking carnival atmosphere. The prosaic works Noční práce and Kloktat dehet refer (in unrealistic mode) to the Soviet military invasion to Czechoslovakia in 1968. The opposition against totalitarian regimes (especially communism) presents a symptomatic feature of Topol's poetics; the writer thematises tragic events, the absurdity of wars and the brutality of senseless killing. He also distinctively focuses on highly symbolical spatial description of the city (Prague in Sestra and Anděl) and rural landscape (Noční práce).
