Colour psychology - theoretic and aplication possibilities

Abstract:

Hlavní otázka této práce zní: existuje vztah mezi blízkostí vztahu a barvovou preferencí lidí v těchto vztazích? Jinými slovy, preferují lidé v páru podobné barvy? V teoretické části se autorka snaží přiblížit nejdříve zabývá barvovými asociacemi s konkrétními barvami. Srovnává výsledky vycházející z pozorování a zkušeností s výsledky vědeckých výzkumů. Poté se zaměřuje na neméně důležitou část této práce: barvové preference. Nejprve diskutuje faktory, jež se podílí na samotné preferenci a poté si pokládá otázku, zda existuje vztah mezi barvovými preferencemi a osobnostními charakteristikami. Nejsilnější závěry z předchozích výzkumů podporují vztah barvových preferencí a faktorů modelu „velké pětky“. Rovněž v těchto faktorech modelu „velká pětka“ existuje podobnost partnerů. Výsledky teoretické části podporují domněnku, že by mohl existovat vztah mezi blízkostí vztahu a podobností v preferencích barev. V empirické části byl použit Pfisterův pyramidový test, jež byl v rámci třech předvýzkumů upravován pro kontexty tohoto výzkumu. Tři předvýzkumy směřovaly k výslednému barvovému testu. Bylo definováno 8 kritérií, pomocí nichž autorka srovnávala shody v pyramidách partnerů. Výsledný barvový test byl předložen 16 blízkým partnerům a 20 náhodně přiřazeným jedincům. Ve výzkumu byl nalezen pozitivní vztah pro tři kritéria. Byl nalezen vztah blízkosti vztahu a preferencí konkrétního odstínu (1), barvového tónu (2) a rovněž užitím světlých barev (3). Rovněž byla nalezena tendence ve shodě preference šedé barvy u partnerů. V závěru autorka doporučuje možné alternativy pro další (hlubší) studie zabývající se tématem barvových preferencí u blízkých lidí.

Abstract:

The main question of this study is: Can we find out any relation between people in close relationships and their colour preferences? In another words do couples prefer similar colours? In the theoretical part the author tries to depict what associations we have with concrete colours. She tries to compare the results of the daily-life observations and the scientific researches. Then she focuses on the very important part of this thesis: Colour preferences. First she discuses all the factors, which affect the prefence and then she asks if there is any clear connection between preference of colours and personal characteristics. The strongest results of previous researches tell us about the relation between the factors of Big Five model and preferences. There exists the partner´s similarity in the factors of Big Five model as well, which supports the idea that there might be a relation between close relationship and similarity in colour preferences. The Pfisterpyramidtest has been used in the empirical part. The author has made three changes with the Pfisterpyramidtest, which has led her to the final colour test. Within these pre-researches the author also dealt with the criteria of final colour test. She defined 8 specific criteria of similarities within the colour preferences. The final test was given to 16 couples and 20 individuals who were then randomly paired. The final colour test supported three of the criteria. There exists the connection between close relationship and preferences of exact hues (1), tones (2) and also the use of bright colours (3). It is also slightly supported that there exists the connection between close relationship and preference of gray colour (7). The author advises the possible alternatives for other (more deep) researches on the topic of colour similarities between people in close relation.
