Participation of France within EU crisis management in sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract:

Cílem práce je analýza působení Francie v rámci krizového managementu EU na území subsaharské Afriky z hlediska francouzských národních zájmů. Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou zapojení Francie v rámci krizového managementu EU na území subsaharské Afriky, kde se EU snaží znovunastolit stabilitu a bezpečné prostředí, což má značný význam pro národní zájmy Francie. Operace krizového managementu EU představují důležitý nástroj zahraniční a bezpečnostní politiky Francie a jejího působení v subsaharské Africe. Francouzské motivy jsou posuzovány na základě formulování v bezpečnostních dokumentech Francie a na základě historického kontextu francouzského působení na africkém kontinentu i v EU. Práce se proto zaměřuje na vybrané případové studie operací krizového managementu EU v subsaharské Africe, v rámci kterých zastávala Francie roli "framework nation" – operace Artemis v DRC, EUFOR Chad/RCA a EUTM v Mali. Jako teoretický rámec práce byl zvolen neorealismus, v rámci kterého je "národní zájem" jedním z klíčových pojmů.

Abstract:

The aim is an analyze the action of France in the context of EU crisis management in the territory of sub-Saharan Africa in terms of french national interests. The thesis analyzes the involvement of France in the context of EU crisis management in the territory of sub-Saharan Africa where the EU is trying to reinstitute the stability and safe environment which is important for national interests of France. EU crisis management operations are an important instrument of foreign and security policy of France and its operations in sub-Saharan Africa. French motives are evaluated based on the formulation of security documents in France and based on the historical context of the french influence on the African continent and in the EU.The text focuses on a few selected case studies of EU crisis management operations in sub-Saharan Africa within the role of "framework nation" - Artemis in DRC, EUFOR Chad/RCA and EUTM in Mali. As a theoretical framework for the thesis was elected neorealism for which the "national interest" is one of the key concepts.
