Using the game "Wordament" to develop English vocabulary

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá hodnocením hry Wordament. Bude zhodnoceno, zda lze či nelze tuto hru využívat pro rozšiřování slovní zásoby studentů angličtiny. V teoretické části práce je popsána důležitost slovní zásoby a aspekty znalosti slova. Práce se zabývá i učením jazyka a faktory, které ho ovlivňují, a také hrou ve vzdělávacím procesu. Praktická část obsahuje tři výzkumné nástroje, a to dotazník, kontrolní list a polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Za pomoci těchto tří nástrojů je hra zhodnocena a jsou krátce navržena její zlepšení.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the evaluation of the game Wordament. It attempts to evaluate whether the game is suitable to use for developing student's vocabulary. The theoretical part describes the importance of vocabulary and aspects of knowing a word. It deals with language learning and factors that affect it. It also talks about games in the educational process. The practical part includes three research tools: a questionnaire, a checklist and semi-structured interviews. The game Wordament is evaluated using these tools, and possible improvements are briefly suggested there.
