Carotid Plaque Image Structure Analysis Using Descriptors and Deep Learning

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je analýza struktury obrazu aterosklerotického plátu v karo-tidě, pro kterou se používají deskriptory a hluboké učení. Hlavním cílem práce je vyhodno-cení možností využití hlubokého učení pro odhad rizika ulomení aterosklerotického plátu, které se provádí v rámci vlastního výzkumu. V teoretické části jsou shromážděny informace o segmentaci obrazu, technikách detekce významných bodů v obrazech a postupech měření objektů pro příznakové rozpoznání. Dále jsou také uvedeny příznakové metody analýzy ob-razu a je charakterizována vícevrstvá neuronová síť s využitím algoritmu zpětného šíření chyby. Součástí teoretické části je popis karotid a aterosklerotických plátů, které mohou být identifikovány právě prostřednictvím analýzy struktury obrazu. V praktické části je realizo-ván projekt, jehož úkolem je analyzovat soubor snímků karotenových tepen, kde existuje riziko vzniku, případně ulomení aterosklerotických plátů. Na konci práce je uvedeno, jaké algoritmy jsou nejvhodnější pro vyhodnocení rizika ulomení plátů.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is the analysis of the structure of atherosclerotic plaque in the carotid artery using descriptors and deep learning. The main objective is to evaluate the potential of deep learning for estimating the risk of atherosclerotic plaque rupture, which is done as part of my own research. The theoretical part gathers information on image segmentation, tech-niques for detecting anomaly points in images, and procedures for measuring objects for feature recognition. Also discussed are feature-based methods of image analysis and the characterization of a multilayer neural network using the backpropagation algorithm. The theoretical part also describes the carotid artery and atherosclerotic plaques, which can be identified through image structure analysis. The practical part involves a project analyzing a set of images of carotid arteries, where there is a risk of the development or rupture of ath-erosclerotic plaques. Finally, the thesis outlines which algorithms are most suitable for eval-uating the risk of plaque rupture.
