Anotace:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá úlohou prírodných elementov v rôznych náboženstvách vo fantasy sérii Pieseň ľadu a ohňa autora Georgea R. R. Martina a ich vplyvom na postavy a spoločnosť v rámci fiktívneho sveta vytvoreného autorom. Cieľom tejto práce je preskúmať tieto prírodné elementy (oheň, vodu, ľad a prírodu ako takú) ktoré predstavujú fiktívne kulty vytvorené Martinom a posúdiť ich spojitosť s náboženstvami a mytológiami reálneho sveta, sústreďujúc sa na božstvá spájané s prírodnými elementami, ktoré sú dominantným prvkom náboženstiev v rámci tohto príbehu. Táto práca ďalej analyzuje dôležitosť, ktorú Martin prisudzuje konkrétnym božstvám predstavujúcim náboženstvá súvisiace s prírodnými elementami a rozoberá ich dejiny, celkový vplyv na sériu, a tiež údajné sily prisudzované týmto bohom. Ďalšou časťou tejto práce je analýza zdrojov, ktoré inšpirovali Martina pri vytváraní vierovyznaní a postáv v sérii Pieseň ľadu a ohňa. Táto práca rozoberá ako sú postavy v rámci príbehu zastúpené ich náboženským presvedčením, a ako jednotlivé náboženstvá a prírodné elementy ovplyvňujú postavy a spoločnosť v rámci tejto série. Táto diplomová práca sa tiež pokúša vysvetliť výber jednotlivých prírodných elementov ako uctievaných prvkov medzi Martinovými fiktívnymi postavami, rozoberajúc význam tohto výberu pre vývoj tejto série. Jedným z druhotných cieľov tejto práce je aj charakterizácia, keďže táto práca rozoberá, ako využívanie náboženstva a mytológie pri vytváraní fiktívneho sveta napomáha k vytvoreniu postáv, ktoré sa javia celistvejšie a skutočnejšie.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is concerned with the role of natural elements in various religions in the fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin and their impact on characters and society within the fictional world created by the author. The aim of the thesis is to explore and critically discuss these natural elements (fire, water, nature and ice) that represent fictional religions created by Martin and consider their connection with real-life worships and mythologies linked to the same natural elements which are dominant components of the cults within the story. Moreover, this thesis addresses the importance Martin attributes to particular deities representing cults related to natural elements, discussing their history, impact on the series, as well as the alleged powers attributed to these deities. Furthermore, this work analyses Martin's inspiration for creating the faiths and characters present in the series, critically discussing how characters are represented by their beliefs and how religions and natural elements influence the fictional characters and societies in the story. Additionally, this thesis attempts to explain the choice of particular natural elements as the source of veneration among Martin's invented characters, reviewing the significance of this selection for the story. Lastly, one of the minor concerns of this thesis is characterisation, as this work attempts to delineate how utilizing religion and mythology helps to create fuller and more believable characters.
