Jan Kubelík, Jaroslav Kocian and Váša Příhoda. Their legacy of interpretation and education for the today´s generation of violinists.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o třech českých houslových legendách konce 19. a první poloviny 20. století, Janu Kubelíkovi, Jaroslavu Kocianovi a Vášovi Příhodovi, o kterých se dnes hovoří jen velmi sporadicky. Ve své profesi dosáhli opravdové virtuozity a proslavili se v řadě zemí. Cílem autora je podat co nejvíce informací o jejich hudební všestrannosti, o umělecké dráze od samých začátků až na její vrchol, mimořádném interpretačním umění, které zúročili i ve své pedagogické činnosti i v činnosti skladatelské. V práci jsou posuzovány okolnosti, které na umělecké cestě tří houslistů sehrály význačnou roli, osobnosti učitelů, kteří stáli za jejich uměleckým vývojem, i to, jak se vyrovnávali s tím, co přinášela doba, ve které žili. Autor pojímá téma práce z pohledu doby, ve které žije, a odpovídá na otázku, zda a jaký odkaz svým životem, interpretačním uměním a pedagogickou činností zanechali naší generaci houslových interpretů a pedagogů tři výjimeční houslisté, kteří byli na vrcholu svého houslového umění před přibližně sto lety. V práci je využívána dostupná historiografická a biografická literatura, monografie, většinou staršího data vydání, které obsahují hodnocení dobových kritiků, uměleckých kolegů, žáků a přátel, tedy přímých svědků interpretačního umění houslistů, případně jejich pedagogického působení. Využití zvukových nahrávek je limitováno jejich kvalitou.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with three Czech violinist legends at the end of the nineteenth and till the mid-twentieth century, namely Jan Kubelík, Jaroslav Kocian and Váša Příhoda, who are nowadays, from the author's point of view undeservedly, only sporadically mentioned. The aim of the thesis is to give as much as possible information about their musical versatility, their artistic career from the beginning, when they started to play the violin, to its virtuosity and about their extraordinary artistic interpretation, of which they made good use as violin teachers and composers. In thesis the author also assesses important circumstances of the violinists' career, the personality of their teachers who stood behind their artistic development, and last but not least the way they chose to overcome the troubles of their time. The issue of the thesis is treated by its author from the perspective of today encouraging her to answer the question whether and which legacy of their life, of their artistic interpretation and pedagogical activities the three extraordinary violin players, who were at the peak of their violin performance approximately hundred years ago, bequeathed to our and the future generations of violin interpreters and teachers. The author uses accessible historiographical and biographical literature as well as monographs of mostly older dates of publication that content assessment of contemporary critiques, colleagues, pupils and friends, i.e. of direct witnesses of the violin players artistic interpretation or their pedagogical work. The use of sound recordings was limited by their quality.
