Hikikomori: Possible Causes of Acute Isolation in Japan

Abstract:

The topic of the thesis is the emergence of socially withdrawn youth (hikikomori) in Japan. The reasons for the emergence of hikikomori and whether hikikomori is an exclusively Japanese issue will be examined. The thesis will be divided into four parts. The first part will be the historical aspect and description of the symptoms of hikikomori. The second and third parts will deal with the analysis of potential causes of hikikomori from a socio-cultural (2) and clinical point of view (3). In the last part, there will be research looking for an answer to the question of whether hikikomori is exclusively Japanese or possible cases can be found outside Japan as well.

Abstract:

Témou práce je vznik sociálne izolovanej mládeže (hikikomori) v Japonsku. Budú sa skúmať dôvody pre vznik hikikomori a či je hikikomori výlučne japonská záležitosť. Práca bude rozdelená na štyri časti. Prvou časťou bude historický aspekt a popis príznakov hikikomori. Druhá a tretia časť sa bude zaoberať analýzou potenciálnych príčin vzniku hikikomori zo socio-kultúrneho (2) a klinického hľadiska (3). V poslednej časti prebehne výskum hľadajúci odpoveď na otázku, či je hikikomori výlučne japonskou záležitosťou alebo hikikomori prípady sú spozorovateľné aj mimo Japonska.
