Morphometrical variability of the hard parts of the monogeneans belonging to the family Gyrodactylidae Beneden and Hesse, 1864

Abstract:

Živorodá monogenea z čeledi Gyrodactylidae Beneden et Hesse, 1864 jsou známa jako parazité mnoha druhů sladkovodních a mořských ryb. Tito parazité mají unikátní biologii, která je v živočišné říší velmi neobvyklá. Tím je jejich způsob rozmnožování. Živorodost se zjednodušenou reprodukční soustavou jim umožňuje množit se velmi rychle a zvýšit tak svůj počet ve velmi krátkém časovém úseku. Systematika parazitů v rámci rodů živorodých monogeneí je založena na morfologických a metrických znacích přichycovacích skleritů, jež jsou umístněny v zadní části těla na jejich příchytného aparátu. Práce se živorodými monogenei vyžaduje značné množství zkušeností, zejména u rodů, kde rozdíly v metrických znacích mezi jednotlivými druhy jsou pouze nepatrné. Ze nejkomplikovanější je považována druhová identifikace zástupců rodu Gyrodactylus, u nichž byla pozorována morfometrická variabilita těchto skleritů v závislosti na měnící se teplotě prostředí v průběhu roku.

Abstract:

The viviparous monogenean parasites belonging to the family Gyrodactylidae Beneden and Hesse, 1864 are known from many freshwater and marine bony fishes. These parasites have an unique biology which is extremly rare in the Animal Kingdom. They have phenomenal manner of the reproduction - the viviparity with simplyfied reproductive system what allows them breed very quickly and thus they increase the number in a very short period. Taxonomy within viviparous genera is based mainly on the morphological and metrical characters of the sclerites positioned on the attachment apparatus of the parasites. The work with viviparous monogeneans requires a lot of experience, especially within the genera where the metrical differences of the taxonomicaly important characters are not well obvious among the species. The identification of the members of the genus Gyrodactylus has been considered as the most complicated because the morphometric variability of taxonomically important structures was observed and the influence of the changing water temperature during the year on the size of the haptoral sclerites was found.
