Aktívna politika trhu práce prešla na Slovensku niekoľkými reformami. Zásadná zmena nastala po 1. januári 2004. Aktívne opatrenia trhu práce v súčasnosti platné v Slovenskej republike boli prijaté zákonom č.5/2004 Z. z. o službách zamestnanosti a o zmene a doplnení niektorých zákonov v znení neskorších predpisov.
