Tradičné matematické modely fotosyntézy sú obvykle vyjadrené systémom chemických reakcií. Tento prístup vyžaduje, aby boli vymenované všetky možné kombinácie stavov modelovaných druhov. Traditional mathematical models of photosynthesis usually use systems of chemical reactions. This approach requires the modeller to enumerate all the possible state combinations of the modelled species. This leads to combinatorial explosion in the number of reactions although the structure of the model could be expressed more compactly.
