Application of Sensory Integration and Basal Stimulation into Occupational Therapy for Children with Down Syndrome.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv zařazení prvků senzorické integrace a bazální stimulace v ergoterapii dětí s Downovým syndromem. Teoretická část práce pojednává o problematice Downova syndromu, etiologii jeho vzniku, vývoji dětí s Downovým syndromem a o včasné péči. Dále se věnuje ergoterapii v pediatrii, poruchám senzorického zpracovávání, terapii využívající senzorické integrace a hlavním principům bazální stimulace. Cílem práce je ověřit efektivitu zařazení těchto prvků do ergoterapie konkrétních pacientů. Praktická část se kvalitativní metodou sběru dat zaměřuje na poruchy senzorického zpracovávání u dvou dětí s Downovým syndromem. Popisuje jejich vyšetření a následné sestavení adekvátní ergoterapie s prvky senzorické integrace a bazální stimulace. Práce následně zkoumá vliv těchto prvků na průběh terapie, její efektivitu a na chování dětí během jednotlivých terapií.

Abstract:

This Bachelor Thesis investigates the impact of applying elements of sensory integration and basal stimulation into an occupational therapy for children with Down syndrome. The theoretical part deals with the Down syndrome problematic, the ethyology of its origin, the progress of children with Down syndrome and with the timely care. It is further focused on the occupational therapy in pediatric, sensory processing disorders therapy using sensory integration and the main principles of basal stimulation. The aim of the thesis is to verify the effectivity of including these elements into the occupational therapy for particular patients. The practical part is by quantitative method of data collection focused on sensory processing disorders in two children with Down syndrome. It describes their checkup and following compilation of adequate occupational therapy with elements of sensory integration and basal stimulation. The thesis subsequently investigates the impact of these elements on the course of therapy, its effectivity and of the behaviour of children during individual therapies.
