Role Confusion from Adolescents Perspective

Abstract:

Disertační práce je složena ze čtyř částí: 1) Přehledová studie, která se věnuje teorii rodinného systému, fenoménu zmatení rolí a zasazuje je do kontextu vazby. 2) Kvalitativní studie - respondenti N=38 (11-17let, M=14,6) - měla za cíl prozkoumat fenomén spousifikace. Z individuálních rozhovorů a focus skupin byly popsány tři kategorie: typy spousifikace, okolnosti vzniku spousifikace a dítě jako aktér spousifikace - míra jeho zapojení. 3) Studie zaměřená na tvorbu sebehodnotícího měřícího nástroje zmatení rolí pro adolescenty. Proces tvorby popisuje dvě pilotní studie, které na sebe navazují. V pilotáži I bylo pilotováno 9 sebehodnotících položek dotazníku na vzorku adolescentů (n=56; 13-17 let; M=15,02; SD=1,8; z toho 65,5% dívky). Byla ověřena vnitřní konzistence a faktorové příslušnosti položek do dvou faktorů – instrumentální zmatení rolí a emocionální zmatení rolí. V pilotáži II bylo pilotováno 16 položek dotazníku (stávající ze studie I, pozměněné a doplněné) na vzorku adolescentů (n=154; 12-19 let; M=15,23; SD = 2,02; 61,7 % dívky). Bylo zde odlišeno zmatení rolí směrem k otci a matce zvlášť, položky jsou rozděleny do tří faktorů: instrumentálního zmatení rolí, emocionálního zmatení rolí v dyádě matka/dítě a emocionální zmatení rolí otec/dítě. Vzhledem k tomu, že obsahově podobné položky pro matku a otce byly administrovány po sobě a sdílely rozptyl, který nebyl možný vysvětlit jejich příslušností do škál, bude dotazník s odlišným pořadím položek podroben následnému zkoumání. 4) Kvantitativní studie, která měla za cíl ověřit dotazník zmatení rolí, zjistit souvislost mezi jednotlivými aspekty zmatení rolí a vazbou u adolescentů a zjistit souvislosti mezi charakteristikami matek (jejich depresivitou a mateřským vědomí vlastní účinnosti). Výzkumný soubor tvořili studenti střední odborných škol a učilišť N=293 (15-21 let, M=16,23 let). Byla ověřena faktorová struktura dotazníku ZRA. Dcery obecně reportovaly vyšší emocionální zmatení rolí, a to jak ve vztahu k matce, tak ve vztahu k otci než synové. Byly zjištěny souvislosti mezi vazbovou vyhýbavostí k otci a emocionálním zmatením rolí. Nebyly zjištěny souvislosti mezi charakteristikami matek a zmatením rolí adolescentů.

Abstract:

The thesis consists of four parts: 1) a review, which deals with the family systems theory, the phenomenon of role confusion and places them within the context of attachment. 2) a qualitative study: respondents N=38 (11-17 years, M=14,6). The aim of the qualitative study was to investigate the phenomenon of spousification. From individual interviews and focus groups, three categories have been described: types of spousification, circumstances of spousification and the extent to which the child is an active agent, i.e.the degree of their involvement. 3) The other part of thesis was to develop a questionnaire to capture the degree of role confusion as it is currently experienced by adolescents. The process of creating a questionnaire is described in two pilot studies. In Study I, 9 self-assessment items were piloted on a sample of adolescents (n=56; 13-17 years; M=15,02; SD=1,8; 65,5% girls). The internal consistency and factor relevance of the items into two factors, instrumental role confusion and emotional role confusion, was verified. In Study II, 16 questionnaire items from Study I, which were amended and supplemented, were piloted on a sample of adolescents (n=154; 12-19 years; M=15,23; SD = 2,02; 61,7 % girls). The distinction of role confusion towards the father and the mother was differentiated, the items having been divided into three factors: instrumental role confusion, emotional role confusion in the mother/child dyad, and emotional role confusion in father/child dyad. Since the content-related items for the mother and the father were administered one after another and shared the variance, which could not be explained by their belonging to the scales, the questionnaire with a different order of items will be subjected to subsequent examination. 4) A quantitative study aimed at verifying the role confusion questionnaire, establishing the relationship between the different aspects of role confusion and attachment, finding out the correlations between the mothers' characteristics (their depression and maternal self-efficacy). The research sample consisted of high school students N = 293 (15-21 years, M = 16,23 years). The factor structure of the ZRA questionnaire was verified. Daughters generally reported higher emotional role confusion, both in relation to the mother and in relation to the father than sons. A relationship between avoidance to the father and emotional role confusion has been found. No correlations were found between the characteristics of the mothers and the confusion of adolescent roles.
