Quality of the business environment in the states of Eastern Europe as a potential for expansion of Czech enterprises

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na kvalitu podnikatelského prostředí v Bulharsku a Rumunsku. Cílem práce je zhodnotit podnikatelské prostředí ve jmenovaných státech pro případnou expanzi českých firem, a to na základě relevantních faktorů. Teoretická část je věnována lokalizačním teoriím, podnikatelskému prostředí a vysvětlením fenoménu přímých zahraničních investic. Pomocí hloubkové literární rešerše dochází k identifikaci faktorů, které ovlivňují příliv investic a podnikatelské prostředí. Validita těchto faktorů je ověřena pomocí osobních rozhovorů s představiteli CzechInvestu. V praktické části je nejdříve představena kategorizace faktorů, na jejichž základě je následně pomocí socioekonomické analýzy hodnoceno podnikatelské prostředí v Bulharsku a Rumunsku. Výsledkem práce je v první řadě teorií i praxí ověřený set faktorů a ukazatelů, podle kterých lze hodnotit nejen výše jmenované státy, ale také jiný stát či region. Hlavní kategorie sledovaných faktorů jsou: lidský kapitál, infrastruktura, velikost trhu a instituce. Pomocí aplikace těchto faktorů v praxi je zhodnoceno prostředí ve východní Evropě a lze konstatovat, že oba státy jsou potenciálně vhodné pro expanzi českých firem.

Abstract:

The focus of this diploma thesis is the quality of the business environment in Bulgaria and Romania. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the business environment in appointed countries as they might be potentially suitable for foreign expansion of Czech enterprises. The theoretical part is dedicated to location theories, business environment, and the explanation of foreign direct investments. Based on the literature review of current research, the main determinants and factors which have major impact on both location choice of FDI and the investment climate are preselected. The selection is confirmed thanks to the qualitative interviews with the employees of CzechInvest Agency. The practical part introduces the final categories of factors and determinants. Based on those factors, business environment in Bulgaria and Romania is evaluated by means of socio-economic analysis. The main results of this thesis consist of verified set of factors, which enables to evaluate not only the countries mentioned above, but any country or region. There are four main categories of factors: human capital, infrastructure, market size and institutions. The business environment in Bulgaria and Romania is evaluated based on these factors. The conclusion suggests both countries offer potential advantages for future expansion of Czech enterprises.
