Influence of beech wood modification on its chemical composition and resistance to wood decay fungi

Abstract:

V diplomové práci byly testovány modifikované a referenční vzorky dřeva buku lesního (Fagus sylvatica L.). Použité způsoby modifikace představovaly tepelná (při 180, 200 a 220 °C) a chemická (acetylace a melaminace) úprava. U všech vzorků byl proveden rozbor látek (celkový obsah extraktivních látek, celkový obsah fenolických látek, celkový obsah sacharidů a hodnot pH vodného výluhu), které v nich byly obsaženy. Druhým cílem práce bylo testování odolnosti jednotlivých modifikovaných a referenčních vzorků vůči účinkům dřevokazných hub – outkovky pestré (Trametes versicolor) jako zástupce dřevokazné houby bílého tlení a pórnatky placentové (Poria placenta) jako zástupce dřevokazné houby hnědého tlení. Během experimentu byly provedeny tři rozdílné expozice: vzorky uložené standardně (16 týdnů), vzorky s prodlouženou expozicí (24 týdnů) a vzorky uložené standardně se zvýšenou vlhkostí (16 týdnů). Výsledky ze stanovení obsažených látek ve vzorcích ukázaly, že nejmenší množství bylo obsaženo v chemicky modifikovaných vzorcích (ACE a MEL) a postupně bylo navyšováno až po tepelně upravené vzorky s nejvyšší teplotou procesu (T220). Hodnoty hmotnostních úbytků byly při obou způsobech napadení (bílé a hnědé tlení) minimální v rámci ACE, MEL a T220 vzorků, zatímco v případě REF, T180 a T200 vzorků byly několikanásobně vyšší. Mezi obsahy látek a hmotnostními úbytky nebyla identifikována žádná závislost. V případě vyhodnocení statistických testů byly získány významné rozdíly při srovnání modifikovaných vzorků s referenčními. Ale v rámci jednotlivých expozic (vzorky uložené standardně, vzorky uložené s prodlouženou expozicí a vzorky uložené standardně se zvýšenou vlhkostí) statisticky významné rozdíly vyhodnoceny nebyly.

Abstract:

Modified and reference samples of beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.) were tested in the diploma thesis. The modification methods used were thermal (at 180, 200 and 220 ° C) and chemical (acetylation and melamine) treatment. All samples were determined (total content of extractive substances, total content of phenolic substances, total content of carbohydrates and pH values of aqueous extract), which were contained in them. The second goal of the work was to test the resistance of individual modified and reference samples to the effects of wood–decay fungi – Trametes versicolor as a representative of wood-decay fungus of white rot and Poria placenta as a representative of wood–decay fungus of brown rot. Three different exposures were performed during the experiment: samples in standard exposure duration (16 weeks), samples with extended exposure (24 weeks), and samples in standard exposure duration with increased humidity (16 weeks). The results from the determination of the substances contained in the samples showed that the smallest amount was contained in the chemically modified samples (ACE and MEL) and was gradually increased up to the heat-treated samples with the highest process temperature (T220). The values of weight loss were minimal in both ACE, MEL and T220 samples for both infestation methods (white and brown rot), while in the case of REF, T180 and T200 samples they were several times higher. No relationship was identified between substance contents and weight loss. In the case of evaluation of statistical tests, significant differences were obtained when comparing the modified samples with the reference ones. However, no statistically significant differences were evaluated within the individual exposures (samples stored as standard, samples stored with extended exposure and samples stored as standard with increased humidity).
