Development of city centres in selected cities

Abstract:

Městská centra zažívají již delší dobu úpadek. Jedním z ukazatelů rozvoje nebo úpadku městských center je rozvoj či úpadek maloobchodu. Po sametové revoluci je tento úpadek způsoben výstavbou obchodních center na periferiích, přičemž tato se stávají konkurencí pro malé obchodníky v městských centrech, kteří tak často nejsou schopni čelit této konkurenci a jsou nuceni tak své působení ukončit. V nedávné době se ovšem maloobchodníci v městských centrech museli potýkat s pandemií covidu-19, kdy v rámci restrikčních opatření, která měla zamezit šíření nákazy, došlo k celoplošnému uzavření, čímž se prohloubily ekonomické ztráty maloobchodníků. Po skončení pandemie pak přichází ekonomická krize nesoucí s sebou nárůst inflace. Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit pomocí terénního šetření, jaký vliv měla pandemie covidu-19 na rozvoj městských center v městech Opava a Ostrava.

Abstract:

The urban centres have been experiencing decline already for a long time. One of the indicators of the development or decline of urban centres is the development or decline of retail trade. After the Velvet Revolution, this decline is caused by the construction of shopping centres in the peripheries, which those become competition for small merchants in the city centres, who are then often unable to face this competition and are forced to cease their businesses. However, recently retailers in city centres had to deal with the covid-19 pandemic, when, as part of restrictive measures to prevent the spread of the disease, there was a nationwide closure, which even deepened the economic losses of retailers. After the end of the pandemic, there comes an economic crisis bringing with it the growth of inflation. The target of the bachelor's thesis is to evaluate, through a field investigation, what effect the covid-19 pandemic had on the development of urban centres in the cities of Opava and Ostrava.
