The European Union is characterized by its diversity, which also forms part of its slogan ‘united in diversity’. This diversity is deeply rooted within the EU and reflected in basically all areas of EU activity. Throughout the development of the EU including the increased integration, the scope of EU policies has widened and the EU covers ever more policy areas.
