Abstract:
Kyrgyzstan has gone through a very turbulent period full of twists and turns since its independence. The two most important men who ruled it were Askar Akayev and Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Both tended towards an authoritarian style of government, and both were eventually overthrown. The Tulip Revolution in 2005 ousted Akayev, and the subsequent counter-revolution in 2010 then Bakiyev.
