Culture production on Instagram: common user vs. artist

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá koexistencí běžných uživatelů a umělců v prostředí aplikace Instagram, která slouží ke sdílení a postprodukci fotografií. Cílem práce je porovnat postupy umělců, kteří tuto aplikaci ve své tvorbě použili, s praxí běžných uživatelů a pokusit se zodpovědět otázku, zda (případně jak) může být příspěvek na Instagramu uměním? Metody či taktiky, jimiž se umělecké postupy odlišují od těch běžných, čistě uživatelských, se pokusíme identifikovat na základě komparativní analýzy konkrétních instagramových profilů a příspěvků. Práce bude mj. vycházet z teze, že Instagram (stejně jako další sociální sítě) je součástí toho, co Guy Debord označil jako spektákl. Budeme si v této souvislosti klást otázku, jakým způsobem dnes spektákl spoluutváří běžní uživatelé.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the coexistence of common users and artists active on Instagram. The goals of this thesis are to compare approaches of the artists, who use it as an artistic tool with behaviour of ordinary users and to answer the question if (and then how) is possible for post on Instagram to be considered as an art piece. By analyzing and comparing selected examples of Instagram profiles and post, this thesis tries to identify key methods and tactics that define the main differences between those two groups of users. Amongst others, this thesis demonstrates how ordinary users keep the concept of spectacle by Guy Debord ongoing.
