Conflict as the Main Thema in Moravian Novellas of J.J. David

Abstract:

In my diploma thesis I deal with a comparison of the main protagonists from two Moravian novellas – Die Hanna and Ruzena Capek – by the Austrian writer Jakob Julius David. The first aim of the thesis is to confirm the hypothesis that all the analysed characters get into conflicts both with themselves and with their environment, and that conflict is the main motive of the novellas. The second aim is to find out what the protagonists share in common and in what they differ, which serves as a base to confirm the second hypothesis that the main women’s protagonists are tragic characters, that they become victims of their husbands, and that their behaviour is more moral than the behaviour of their husbands.

Abstract:

Ve své diplomové práci se zabývám srovnáním hlavních postav ve dvou moravských novelách – Die Hanna a Ruzena Capek – od rakouského spisovatele Jakoba Julia Davida. Prvním cílem práce je potvrdit hypotézu, že všechny analyzované postavy se dostávají do konfliktů, ať už se sebou samými či se svým okolím a že konflikt figuruje v novelách jako hlavní téma. Druhým záměrem této práce je zjistit, co mají protagonisté společného a v čem se liší, což slouží jako základ pro potvrzení druhé hypotézy, a sice že hlavní hrdinky v sobě nesou určitou tragiku, stávají se oběťmi svých mužů a jejich chování je morálnější, než chování mužů.
