Effect of Lactobacillus on Biofilm Forming bacteria

Abstract:

Biofilm vzniká přichycením mikroorganismů k povrchu a následnou tvorbou komplexního společenstva. Některé laktobacily produkují bakteriociny, které mohou biofilm inhibovat. Teoretická části pojednává o testovaných bakteriích včetně laktobacilů, tvorbě biofilmu a bakteriocinech. Cílem praktické části bylo zjistit vliv laktobacilů na biofilm pozitivní bakterie. Podle výsledků pilotní studie bylo vybráno pět laktobacilů, u nichž byl testován vliv na růst biofilmu u biofilm pozitivních bakterií. Tvorba biofilmu Bacillus subtilis CCM 2216 byla inhibována všemi laktobacily vyjma Lacticaseibacillus paracasei tolerans CCDM 832. V případě Staphylococcus aureus CCM 885 došlo k omezení růstu biofilmu vlivem Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 196, Lacticaseibacillus casei casei CCDM 198 a Lacticaseibacillus casei CCDM 422. U Stenotrophomonas maltophilia CCM 1640 byl růst biofilmu inhibován všemi laktobacily. V pilotní studií byl zkoumán vliv bakteriocinů a jejich antimikrobiální aktivita na vybrané laktobacily a bakterie. Studií bylo zjištěno, že největší účinnost bakteriocinů mezi laktobacily měl kmen Latilactobacillus sakei sakei CCDM 717. Oproti tomu kmen Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 375 a kmen Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 381 neprokázaly inhibici u žádného testovaného laktobacilu. Na sledovaných biofilm pozitivních bakteriích, Bacillus subtilis CCM 2216 a Staphylococcues aureus CCM 885, byly antibakteriální a antibiofilm účinky prokázány všemi laktobacily vyjma Latilactobacillus sakei sakei CCDM 717. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia CCM 1640 byla inhibována pouze kmenem Lacticaseibacillus paracasei tolerans CCDM 832.

Abstract:

Biofilm is formed by the attachment of microorganisms to the surface and the subsequent formation of a complex community. Some lactobacilli produce bacteriocins that can inhibit the biofilm. The theoretical section discusses the tested bacteria including lactobacilli, biofilm formation and bacteriocins. The aim of the practical part was to investigate the effect of lactobacilli on biofilm positive bacteria. According to the results of the pilot study, five lactobacilli were selected and tested for their effect on biofilm growth in biofilm positive bacteria. Biofilm formation by Bacillus subtilis CCM 2216 was inhibited by all lactobacilli except Lacticaseibacillus paracasei tolerans CCDM 832. For Staphylococcus aureus CCM 885, biofilm growth was inhibited by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 196, Lacticaseibacillus casei CCDM 198 and Lacticaseibacillus casei CCDM 422. For Stenotrophomonas maltophilia CCM 1640, biofilm growth was inhibited by all lactobacilli. The effect of bacteriocins and their antimicrobial activity on selected lactobacilli and bacteria was investigated in a pilot study. The study found that Latilactobacillus sakei sakei CCDM 717 had the highest bacteriocin efficiency among lactobacilli. In contrast, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 375 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CCDM 381 did not show inhibition in any of the tested lactobacilli. On the tested biofilm positive bacteria, Bacillus subtilis CCM 2216 and Staphylococcues aureus CCM 885, antibacterial and antibiofilm effects were proven by all lactobacilli except Latilactobacillus sakei sakei CCDM 717. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia CCM 1640 was inhibited only by Lacticaseibacillus paracasei tolerans CCDM 832.
