Parthenogenesis in Orthoptera insects

Abstract:

U řádu Orthoptera byla v minulosti pozorována partenogeneze (typ nepohlavního rozmnožování) jak fakultativní, tak obligátní. Přesto se tomuto zajímavému jevu u takto nápadného hmyzu ze začátku nevěnovala přílišná pozornost. Ke vzniku asexuality došlo hned několika způsoby, spojované s hybridizací, infekcí endoparazita či jednoduše s aktuálním nedostatkem partnera. Značná část případů splňuje podmínky geografické partenogeneze, kterou občas doprovází polyploidie či hybridizace. Tato práce shrnuje historické i současné poznatky jevu zvaný partenogeneze v rámci tohoto řádu.

Abstract:

In the case of Orthoptera insect, there has been observed both facultative and obligatory parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). Nevertheless, no attention has been paid to this interesting phenomenon at the beginning. There are several ways which lead to asexuality; they are connected with hybridization, infection by endoparasite or simply absence of males. The majority of cases are geographical parthenogenesis accompanied by polyploidization or hybridization. This study presents a history of previous research and actual knowledge of this topic.
