Quality of Life in Children with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, jaká je kvalita života (KŽ) dětí od 5 do 18let s Diabetem mellitem I typu (DM I typu). Metodika: V praktické části byl použit modifikovaný standardizovaný dotazník PedsQL , verze 4.0. Poskytl informace o obecné KŽ dětí s DM I typu v oblasti fyzické, psychické, školní a sociální problematiky. Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 41 respondenty, respektive dětmi s DM I typu, které jsou pacienty diabetologické poradny Uherskohradišťské nemocnice. Dotazníkové šetření, včetně předvýzkumu, probíhalo od února 2014 do 8. dubna 2014. Výsledky: Výsledky dotazníkového šetření prokázaly, že dětí s DM I typu zhodnotily kvalitu svého života v oblasti fyzické, psychické, sociální a školní problematiky na 75 %. Nejméně je DM I typu ovlivněna oblast sociální spolu s oblastí fyzických funkcí. Nejhůře respondenti zhodnotili oblast psychickou, kdy daná oblast získala pouze 56,9 %. Závěr: DM I typu je onemocnění, jehož výskyt celosvětově narůstá. Kvůli svému onemocnění jsou děti často naštvané a smutné. Je velmi důležité věnovat těmto problémům pozornost a snažit se o to, aby se KŽ dětí s DM I typu podobala co nejvíce KŽ dětí zdravých. Výsledky průzkumu budou pro sestry přínosné. Umožní zaměřit se na psychické problémy dětí s DM I typu a snažit se o jejich zlepšení, stejně tak jako ošetřovatelský tým, který se podílí na péči o takto nemocné děti. Smutek a naštvanost mohou děti vnímat kvůli tomu, že se jim nedaří DM I typu kompenzovat tak, jak by chtěly. Proto je nutné zaměřit se na podrobnější edukaci jak dětí s DM I typu, tak i jejich rodičů.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the thesis was to find out what is the life quality of children aged 5-18 suffering with diabetes. Methods: A modified, standardised questionnaire was used in a practical part of the thesis. It has provided some information about the life quality of children with diabetes in physical, mental, educational and social areas. The research was created by 41 respondents, children with this illness, who are the patients of a diabetes clinic in hospital in Uherske Hradiste. The questionnaire survey, including previous research, was conducted from February 2014 to 8th April 2014. Results: The results of the questionnaire survey show that children with diabetes illness value their quality of life at 75%. The social and physical areas are influenced the least. The worst part for respondents is the mental part, it reached only 56.9%. Conclusion: Diabetes is a disease which incidence is increasing worldwide. Because of this illness children are sad and very often upset. It is very important to pay attention to these problems and try to keep the life quality of children with diabetes on the same level as quality of healthy children´s lives. These results are going to be a benefit for nurses. They can help to focus on mental problems of children and try to improve them. Children can feel the sadness and frustration because they can not compensate diabetes as much as they wanted. That´s why it´s necessary to focus on better education of children and their parents as well.
