Participation of the United Kingdom in UN peacekeeping from the strategic culture view

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of Great Britain‘s participation in UN peacekeeping operations after the Cold War. The thesis uses the concept of strategic culture, which helps to better understand British thinking and behavior in this area. The various characteristics of British strategic culture are then compared with the British approach towards its participation to date. The aim of the thesis is to find out how much the British commitment to these operations stems from its strategic culture and whether British participation can be explained through this concept.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá participáciou Veľkej Británie v rámci operácii na udržovaní mieru OSN po studenej vojne. Práca využíva koncept strategickej kultúry, pomocou ktorého je možné lepšie pochopiť britské správanie a uvažovanie v tejto oblasti. Jednotlivé charakteristiky britskej strategickej kultúry sú v práci porovnávané s tým, ako krajina pristupovala k participácii na týchto operáciách. Cieľom práce je zistiť, do akej miery plynie britský záväzok voči týmto operáciám z jej strategickej kultúry a či je možné vysvetliť britskú participáciu skrz tento koncept.
