Statistical Analysis of Gender Representation in Senior Management in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

The main objective of this thesis is to examine and investigate the factors contributing to women's difficulty in advancing to senior management positions. With a specific focus on the Czech Republic, the progression over time of women in executive roles is discussed, as are the implications of gender equality in the workforce. The theoretical part of this thesis introduces and explains the glass ceiling phenomenon, the barriers women face, as well as the current situation of gender distribution and representation. Key issues are identified, such as work-life balance challenges, gender stereotypes, and lack of initiative from the organization itself to combat this whilst mentioning the potential benefits of equality and inclusion. Additionally, the current gender distribution in the Czech Republic is discussed and compared to the European Union to better understand the positioning of the Czech Republic on a wider scale. The practical part includes testing the significance of the independent variables and the percentage of women in executive roles by carrying out a regression analysis. This is done using the SAS Studio program. The findings highlight the need for business initiative and the societal challenges faced, and concluded that women's caring responsibilities for children greatly affected their ability to advance to executive roles. A time series analysis was employed to visualize the progression and predict future outcomes.
