Hlučínsko and Vitorazsko: Historical Myth and Geographical Hybridity

Abstract:

Hlučínsko a Vitorazsko patří k územím, jež byla k novodobému Česku připojena až po roce 1918, přičemž jedním z argumentů pro jejich připojení byl mýtus o poněmčených Češích toužících vrátit se ke svým slovanským kořenům. Tato očekávání se však ukázala být nepravdivá, protože obyvatelé Hlučínska a tzv. Vitorazska o připojení k Československu příliš nestáli, neboť jejich identita v sobě spojovala jazykové češství (moravství) a zemský nacionalismus německý (pruský), resp. rakouský. Na obě tato území lze nahlížet jako na území mezi Německem/Rakouskem a Českem, v nichž historicky docházelo k míšení kultur a prolínání identit, což současná humánní geografie popisuje koncepty jako hybridita, in-betweenness či nacionalizace. Tato bakalářská práce dva z těchto konceptů aplikuje na případy Vitorazska a Hlučínska.

Abstract:

Hlučínsko and Vitorazsko belong to the territories that were annexed to the modern Czech Republic only after 1918, and one of the arguments for their annexation was the myth of germanized Czechs eager to return to their Slavic roots. However, these expectations turned out to be untrue, because the inhabitants of Hlučín and the so-called Vitorazsko did not care too much about the annexation to Czechoslovakia, because their identity combined linguistic Czechness (Moravia) and German (Prussian) national nationalism, respectively. Austrian. Both of these territories can be seen as territories between Germany / Austria and the Czech Republic, where historically there has been a mixture of cultures and intermingling of identities, which contemporary human geography describes concepts such as hybridity, in-betweenness or nationalization. This bachelor thesis applies two of these concepts to the cases of Vitorazsko and Hlučínsko.
