Alexithymia and emotional intelligence in people undergoing a chamber REST stay

Abstract:

V nasledujúcej bakalárskej práci sa zaoberáme technikou obmedzenej vonkajšej stimulácie REST, ktorá je v našich podmienkach známa ako terapia tmou. Z doterajších výskumov a samotnej ľudskej skúsenosti sa táto metóda javí ako prínosná pri obnove fyzických i psychických síl. Ovplyvňuje kognitívne schopnosti, pôsobí na vylučovanie rôznych hormónov v tele a zdá sa, že podporuje aj životnú spokojnosť. V našej práci sme sa snažili nájsť odpoveď na otázku či pobyt v prostredí REST pôsobí na mieru alexithýmie a emocionálnej inteligencie. Práca je rozdelená na teoretickú a praktickú časť. Prvá časť je venovaná vysvetleniu alexithýmie a jej modelov, a emocionálnej inteligencii. Ďalej pojednáva o histórii terapie tmou alebo REST. Praktická časť je zameraná na posúdenie zmien v miere alexithýmie a emocionálnej inteligencie pred a po absolvovaní terapie tmou u jedincov, ktorí tento pobyt podstupujú v porovnaní s komparačnou skupinou, ktorá je bez zásahu. Záver je venovaný interpretácii výsledkov a diskusii.

Abstract:

In the following bachelor thesis, we deal with the technique of restricted environmental stimulation technique REST, which is known as darkness therapy. From previous research and human experience, this method seems to be beneficial in restoring physical and mental strength. It affects cognitive abilities, secretion of various hormones in the body, and it seems to promote life satisfaction. In our work we tried to find the answer to the question if REST can affect measure of alexithymia and emotional intelligence. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The first part is devoted to explaining alexithymia and its models, and emotional intelligence. It also discusses the history of darkness therapy or REST. The practical part is focused on the assessment of changes in the measure of alexithymia and emotional intelligence before and after the darkness therapy in individuals who undergo this stay, compared to a comparative group that is without intervention. The conclusion is devoted to the interpretation of results and discussion.
