Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the main characters of the novels Les Particules élémentaires, L’Extension du domaine de la lutte and La Possibilité d’une île by french writer Michel Houellebecq and to find characteristic elements of postmodern individual to these protagonists. The first part of the thesis deals with the postmodern period, with its typical traits and with four patterns of postmodern human defined by sociologist Zygmunt Bauman. It is followed by short discourse on postmodern literature and on literary character generally. The analytical part of the thesis primarily focuses on the analysis of stated characters and on the search for their postmodern traits. At the end of the thesis, there is brief comparison of all of the characters.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat hlavní postavy románů Les Particules élémentaires, L’Extension du domaine de la lutte a La Possibilité d’une île francouzského spisovatele Michela Houellebecqa a nalézt u těchto protagonistů charakteristické prvky postmoderního jedince. První část práce se zabývá postmoderní dobou, jejími typickými znaky a čtyřmi vzorci postmoderního člověka tak, jak je definuje sociolog Zygmunt Bauman. Následuje krátké pojednání o postmoderní literatuře a literární postavě obecně. Analytická část práce se zaměřuje především na rozbor daných postav a na hledání jejich postmoderních rysů. V závěru práce je stručné porovnání všech postav.
