Enviromental Management and its Impact on the Corporate Competitiveness

Abstract:

Současné podniky hledají stále nové možnosti, jak zvýšit svoji konkurenceschopnost na trhu. Jednou z cest dosažení uvedeného cíle může být integrace environmentálního smýšlení do podniku. Disertační práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání dopadů implementace environmentálního managementu v podnicích v ČR. Cílem práce je nalezení oblastí, prostřednictvím kterých environmentální management pozitivně ovlivňuje konkurenceschopnost podniků, dále pak stanovení míry významnosti, zdrojů a charakteristik tohoto dopadu. Nejprve jsou pojmy environmentální management a konkurenceschopnost vymezeny teoreticky a jsou shrnuty hlavní závěry dosavadních zahraničních výzkumů, pojednávajících o vztahu uvedených konceptů. Vlastní výzkum je založen na kombinaci kvantitativního a kvalitativního přístupu. Pozitivní dopad zavedení environmentálního managementu byl nalezen v oblasti procesního řízení (zejména systematizace řízení a zdokumentování činností podniků), dále pak v oblasti marketingu (plnění požadavků externích stakeholderů, deklarace souladu se všemi požadavky, posílení image). Pozitivní dopad environmentálních opatření na finanční výkonnost podniků byl potvrzen v kvantitativním šetření, v kvalitativním výzkumu však byla odhalena některá jeho omezení.

Abstract:

The current enterprises always search for new possibilities of increasing their competitiveness in the marketplace. One way to achieve the goal can be the integration of environmental awareness to the business. The disertation theses focuses on examining the impacts of the environmental management implementation on the companies in the Czech Republic. The aim of the theses is the identification of the areas through which environmental management positively affects the corporate competitiveness and determination of the significance, resources and characteristics of the revealed impact. Primarily the terms of environmental management and corporate competitiveness are theoretically defined and the main conclusions of the previous foreign researches of the relation of both concepts are mentioned. The author´s research is based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach. The positive impact of the environemntal management implementation was revealed in the process management (especially business systematization and documentation transparency improvement) and in marketing (fulfillment of the external stakeholders requirements and declaration of it, image improvement). The relation between environmental management and corporate financial performance was confirmed in the survey but some limitations of the relation were revealed in the qualitative research.
