Coping strategies of patients with cancer diagnosis

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá strategiemi, které využívají onkologičtí pacienti jako obranu proti stresu, který je spojen především s jejich diagnózou a probíhající léčbou. Důraz je zaměřen i na podporu rodiny a přátel a na celkový stav pacienta, neboť všechny tyto aspekty mají na zvládání stresové situace vliv. V teoretické části je věnována pozornost oboru onkologie, včetně etiologie a diagnostiky nádorových onemocnění a jejich léčby, dále se tato část práce věnuje specifické péči o onkologického pacienta, především komunikaci a péči o psychiku. Poslední kapitola se věnuje stresu a zvládání nemoci, vlivu podpory rodiny a samotným strategiím zvládání stresu. V praktické části práce byl proveden kvalitativní průzkum za pomocí rozhovorů s onkologickými pacienty, dotazy byly zaměřeny především na podporu okolí, zvládání situace po psychické a fyzické stránce a pochody, které pomáhají ke zmírnění stresu.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with strategies used by cancer patients as a defense mechanism against stress which is connected mainly to their diagnosis and ongoing treatment. Emphasis is taken on support of family members and friends and patient's general condition since all of these aspects have their impact on coping with a stressful situation. In the theoretical part of the thesis the attention is paid to the field of oncology, including etiology, diagnostics and treatment of tumorous illnesses, this part also pays attention to specific care for a cancer patient, mostly communication and care for psychical health. The last chapter is focused on stress and dealing with the illness, influence of family support and coping stress strategies. In the practical part of the thesis, the qualitative survey was taken by interviewing cancer patients, the questions were focused mostly on local support, dealing with the situation mentally and psychically and strategies, which patients use to release stress.
