Tocqueville about the Relationship between State and Religion

Abstract:

Tocqueville si všímá toho, že mravy a náboženství přispívají k udržení demokratické republiky v USA. Cílem naší práce je zkoumat příčiny tohoto jevu a v historicko-politickém kontextu je vysvětlit. Tento stav porovnáme s Francií, kde během Velké francouzské revoluce byly snahy o to, aby vliv náboženství na společnost byl eliminován. Zjistíme, s jakými obtížemi se musela církev ve Francii vypořádávat a pokusíme si vysvětlit složité vztahy mezi církví a státem. V této otázce si ukážeme podstatné rozdíly, které panovaly mezi USA a Francií a jaký vliv to mělo na průběh revoluce. V problematice francouzské demokracie si rozebereme jednotlivé změny, abychom se dozvěděli, proč ve Francii došlo během revoluce k selhání demokracie a nastolení autoritativních režimů, zatímco ve Spojených státech se demokracie po revoluci udržela.

Abstract:

Tocqueville notes that morals and religion contribute to maintaining democratic republic in the United States. The aim of our study is to examine the causes of this phenomenon and the historical-political context is explained. This condition compare with France, where during the French Revolution, the efforts to ensure that the influence of religion on society has been eliminated. We'll find out what problems they had to deal Church in France and try to explain the complex relationship between church and state. In this issue we will show substantial differences which existed between the US and France, and what influence it had on the course of the revolution. On the issue of French democracy, we analyze the various changes that we know why the French Revolution occurred during a failure of democracy and the establishment of authoritarian regimes, while the United States maintain democracy after the revolution.
