Perception of nature and climate change of blind people

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá percepcí přírody a klimatické změny u osob s vysoce klasifikovaným zrakovým postižením, tedy u osob nevidomých. Rešeršní část je opřená o literaturu zaměřenou na zraková postižení a jejich kompenzační činitele, na smyslové vnímání a na vnímání přírody a klimatické změny. Mimo to text popisuje vzdělávací programy a instituce, jako důležitého aktéra ve vztahu k přírodě. Diplomová práce se snaží porozumět a interpretovat percepci nevidomých v kontextu vizuocentrické společnosti, a to za pomocí interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy a go-along metody. Z výzkumu i přes subjektivitu vnímání vyplývá, že nevidomí sice v přírodě využívají nejvíce sluchu a hmatu, ale v kombinaci s ostatními smysly hodnotí pobyt v přírodě jako multisensorický. Důležitou roli v jedinečnosti percepcí pak hraje zprostředkování vjemů druhými osobami a doba ztráty zraku, případně jeho zbytky.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the perception of nature and climate change perception of people with highly classified visual impairment, specifically blind people. The literature review is based on resources focused on visual impairments and their compensatory factors, as well as sensory perception and the perception of nature and climate change. In addition, the thesis describes educational programs and institutions as important actors’ relations with/to nature. The thesis tries to understand and interpret the perception of blind people in the context of visucentric society, using interpretative phenomenological analysis and the go-along method. Despite the subjectivity of perception, research shows that even though blind people mainly use hearing and touch (in combination with other senses) in nature, they perceive their stay in nature as multisensory. An important role in the uniqueness of perception plays the mediation of perceptions by other people and the time of vision loss, or its remnants.
