Immigrants Integration and Public Service in the UK: Expectations and Reality

Anotácia:

Práca skúma vzťah medzi integráciou imigrantov a verejnými službami. Cieľom práce je ukázať aký dopad má integrácia imigrantov na poskytovanie verejných služieb, ale taktiež ako prístup k verejným službám ovplyvňuje integráciu imigrantov. Prvá časť práce sa venuje historickým udalostiam a ich vplyvom na vývoj aktuálnej situácie. V ďalších častiach práca popisuje teóriu integrácie a popisuje rôzne pohľady na pochopenie tohto konceptu. Nasledujúce kapitoly opisujú Britský prístup k integrácii, zameranie Britskej vlády na migračnú politiku a ako tieto zákony ovplyvňujú život imigrantov v Británii. Práca taktiež skúma aký dopad majú imigranti na využívanie verejných služieb a verejných prostriedkov, a taktiež aká je verejná mienka o migrantoch a ich integrácii. Na záver práca poukazuje na nekonzistentnosť a neúplnosť prístupu Británie k integrácii imigrantov, a taktiež na fakt, že hlavnú zodpovednosť v procese integrácie a poskytovania verejných služieb nesú práve Britskí občania.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the relationship between immigrant integration and the public services. The aim of the thesis is to show what impact does integration of immigrants have on the provision of public services, but also how does access to public services affect integration of newcomers. The first section examines the historical events and how they influenced the development of current trends. Later the thesis describes the theory of integration and represents variations in the understanding of the concept. The following chapters describe the British approach to integration, their focus on immigration laws and how these affect the life of foreigners in Britain. The thesis also looks at the impact of migrants on public services and resources, as well as at the public opinion on immigrants and their integration. The thesis concludes that the British approach to integration is rather inconsistent and the main responsibility to achieve integration is to large extent delegated to the British public, just like the effective delivery of public services.
