Iconography of the Adoration of the Magi in the art of the late Middle Ages of the Czech Lands

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá ikonografií scény Klanění králů v umění pozdního středověku v českých zemích, tedy od počátku 14. do 30. let 16. století. Zpracovává veškeré dostupné kanonické iapokryfní texty, které se podílely na vývoji ikonografie od raného křesťanstva. Samostatným vývojem vyobrazení se zabývají jednotlivé podkapitoly. Součástí práce je katalog 83 děl české provenience, které byly podrobeny ikonografické analýze a současně proběhl i pokus o jejich komparaci s mladším i soudobým evropským uměním.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the iconography of the scene Adoration of the Magi in the art of the late Middle Ages in the Czech lands, from the beginning of the 14th to the 30s of the 16th century. It processes all available information from canonical and apocryphal texts that have contributed to the development of iconography since early Christianity. The individual subchapters deal with the separate development of the illustrations. The work includes a catalog of 83 works of Czech provenance, which were subjected to iconographic analysis and at the same time an attempt was made to compare them with younger and contemporary medieval European art.
