The Origin of Laughter

Abstract:

Diplomová práce primárně zobrazuje historický přehled různých názorů na smích slavných filozofů a v menším počtu i lékařů a jiných myslitelů až do počátku 20. století a hodnotí je. Součástí je i stručný přehled a charakteristika smíchu v době, kdy tito autoři žili. Práce je z historického hlediska zaměřena na civilizovanou evropskou kulturu a později i na Severní Ameriku. Práce zobrazuje různé názory na smích a jeho chápání a táže se, jestli byl smích v dějinách považován za něco pozitivního či nikoli a proč tomu tak bylo. Práce hledá odpověď na otázku, jak si vysvětlovali smích myslitelé od antiky až do počátku 20. století a jak moc se jejich pojetí lišila.

Abstract:

This thesis primarily depicts the history of the different views on laughter famous philosophers and a smaller number of doctors and other intellectuals until the early 20th century and evaluated. It also includes a brief overview of the characteristics and laugh at a time when these authors lived. The work is historically focused on civilized European culture and later to North America. The work shows different views of laughter and understanding, and asks if he was laughing in the history regarded as something positive or not, and why that was. The work seeks to answer the question, how do you explain laugh thinkers from antiquity until the early 20th century, and how much their approach differed.
