Výsledkem křížení dvou taxonů Mus musculus musculus a Mus musculus domesticus v hybridní zóně, je hybridní potomstvo, které je buď sterilní nebo má sníženou reprodukční schopnost. Za tyto problémy jsouzodpovědné reprodukční bariéry. Výzkum reprodukčních bariér probíhá nejen a molekulární úrovni, ale i na úrovni buněčné a behaviorální. Hybridization between two mouse taxa, Mus musculus musculus and M. m. domesticus, in a hybrid zone results in production of hybrid offspring that is characterized either by decreased fertility or viability. These problems are caused by reproductive barriers.
