Style Choice in British Popular Music Singing

Style Choice in British Popular Music Singing
Abstract:
The thesis deals with style choice in British popular music singing. It attempts to resolve whether style shifting in singing is influenced by sociolinguistic criteria or by a singing technique which is influenced by inherent sonority of sounds. In order to find out, a case study have been conducted, where British singer Jessie J's speech and lyrics of her three songs are analysed.
