The Comparison of Stock Index

Abstract:

Tato práce srovnává tři akciové indexy na základě výnosu a volatility. Období, ve kterém jsou tyto indexy srovnávány, začíná 1.lednem 2007 a končí 31. březnem 2010. Každý akciový index je zástupcem jiného finančního trhu; komparace se konkrétně týká indexu Standard & Poor’s 500 v roli reprezentanta amerického trhu, indexu Finacial Times Stock Exchange 100 zastupujícího evropský trh a indexu Nikkei 225, který reprezentuje asijský trh. Historická volatilita je zobrazena za dvacet dní pomocí grafu. Výnos je uváděn číselně jako průměrná roční procentuální změna.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to compare three stock indices based on their earnings and volatility. The index comparison focuses on the period starting 1 January 2007 and ending 31 March 2010. Each stock index is a representative of a different financial market; the selected indices for this thesis are Standard & Poor’s 500 (representing the American market), Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 (representing the European market) and Nikkei 225 (representing the Asian market). The historical volatility of twenty days is shown in a graph. Earnings are presented numerically as average annual change in percent.
